Most general repair shops lack the training, tooling, and high-voltage safety protocols required to properly service EVs — leading to misdiagnoses, unnecessary part replacements, and safety risks. Vertical Automotive provides certified Tesla and EV repair with factory-grade diagnostic equipment, genuine or OEM-equivalent components, and technicians trained specifically in electric drivetrains, battery management systems, and regenerative braking. Whether your Tesla needs a battery health evaluation, suspension calibration, A/C service, or a full diagnostic scan, our team delivers dealership-level precision at independent shop value. We service all Tesla models — Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y — as well as other electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Every repair is backed by our 36-month / 36,000-mile warranty.

Tesla LDU Rebuild vs. Replacement

The Large Drive Unit (LDU) is the electric motor and gearbox assembly used in early Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles. When it begins to fail, the first symptom is typically a high-pitched whine that changes pitch with vehicle speed. Left unaddressed, that whine can progress to bearing failure and drivetrain loss.

A well-documented failure on early Model S and Model X drive units involves coolant intrusion into the motor windings. As gaskets and seals degrade, coolant can cause insulation breakdown, reduced efficiency and overheating. Diagnosis determines whether internal bearings, seals and other worn components can be repaired or the unit needs replacement.

Tesla Battery Degradation & Range Loss

Tesla batteries degrade gradually, and South Florida's heat accelerates that process. Temperature, charge frequency, and charging habits have the greatest impact on degradation rate. A battery health report helps determine where your pack stands and what maintenance steps may reduce further loss.

Professional diagnostics read BMS data to assess usable capacity, internal resistance and cell voltage balance. Charging recommendations depend on the battery chemistry and model; follow the vehicle's current manufacturer guidance.

Tesla A/C & Thermal Management in South Florida

Tesla's thermal management system serves three functions: cooling the battery, conditioning the cabin, and regulating motor temperature. South Florida's heat tests this system. When the coolant circuit or heat-pump circuit develops a fault, range, performance, and battery longevity can be affected simultaneously.

Tesla Suspension & Alignment in South Florida

Tesla air suspension and conventional spring systems both feel the impact of South Florida's road conditions. Proper alignment is especially critical in EVs: even slight misalignment increases rolling resistance, reduces range, and accelerates tire wear — already faster on EVs due to added weight and instant torque.

Tesla Model S & Model X Suspension Problems

Model S and Model X vehicles equipped with air suspension use air struts that combine an air spring and shock absorber. A leaking strut can leave one corner noticeably lower after parking overnight. Repeated compressor operation to compensate for a leak can damage the compressor. Diagnose a change in parked ride height before the problem progresses.

Tesla Drive Unit Oil Change

Tesla's electric motor has no pistons, no combustion, and no traditional engine oil — but the drive unit also contains a reduction gearbox. That gearbox uses fluid that can degrade with time and operating conditions. Neglected fluid can contribute to bearing and gear wear; inspection and service should follow the requirements for the specific drive unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Tesla models do you service?

We service Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y and Cybertruck. Share the model, year and symptoms when choosing your shop.

Does a Tesla need maintenance without a combustion engine?

Yes. Brakes, tires, suspension, cabin filters and thermal systems still need attention. Battery and drive-unit diagnostics depend on the model and its symptoms.

How do I book an appointment?

Choose either shop and call directly using the location picker. Both shops are open Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, and closed on weekends.
